Friday, September 9, 2016 – John English Friday Update

Friday, September 9, 2016 – John English Update

September Newsletter: The September newsletter was sent to all John English families through our School Connects email system. If you did not receive a copy of the newsletter you may access it through the school website . The September newsletter is the only newsletter of the year. The Friday Update will provide parents and families with an account of the highlights of the week and look ahead to future dates.

September 6 – The First Day of School: It was great to see so many familiar and new faces enter École John English JMS on the first day of school. The students have done well meeting new classmates, learning new routines and taking on the responsibility to be prepared for their day. Everyone is off to a great start.

Transportation: Attached is a letter explaining the present bussing situation in the TDSB. As many of you are aware, there have been times when our transportation provider has been delayed on their routes. It is expected that during the first few days of school there may be delays as drivers meet the students and learn the routes. This year, our provider, Attridge, has experienced difficulty supporting all the routes in Toronto with drivers. As a result, route 161 has experienced considerable delays in the morning and the evening. We are in daily contact with the bus company and with our Transportation department to find a solution. Further communication about changes as they occur will be provided directly to parents through email.

Until the delays are resolved, parents may look at possible alternate methods of transportation for their children (i.e., carpooling, walking train, walking or public transit with older sibling).

Building Repairs and Maintenance: The summer has been busy at John English for maintenance and repairs. The roof has been resurfaced, new steam boilers have been installed and the window frames have received a new coat of paint. Presently, workers are testing the integrity of the steel support structure. This testing will continue to take place for the next 3 weeks. Students have been reminded to stay away from any safety fencing and teachers continue to vigilantly supervise the areas while students are nearby.
