Student Council – Grade 6, 7 and 8: As an integral part of our John English Community, the Student Council is responsible for celebrating school spirit through planning, organizing and running dances, fundraising activities, food/toy drives and Spirit Days. Each Middle School class elects two representatives who work as part of a larger team to serve the student body and the community. This past Thursday, the Grade 6, 7 & 8 classes held their Prime Minister Election. The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister run our Student Council which is comprised of classroom representatives from our Grade 6, 7 and 8 classrooms. Eight candidates presented speeches to their peers in the auditorium and shared their ideas and hopes for this school year. Congratulations to our new Prime Minister, Ben Bourgon and Deputy Prime Minister, Ana Downes. All of our candidates worked diligently and presented excellent ideas for the upcoming year. The Student Council is looking forward to an exciting 2016-17.

Grade 9 Information Night: Thursday, October 27th at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium, Ms. Bryer, our Guidance Counsellor will be holding an information session for all Grade 8 parents and students to assist with planning for Grade 9. Prior to the session we are hoping to have representatives from Lakeshore C.I. and Richview C.I. to speak with student and parents beginning at 6:30 p.m. All parents are encouraged to attend this session as we prepare our students for a smooth transition to Grade 9.

Band and String Instruments: Do you have old band and string instruments that are collecting dust around your home? Perhaps these instruments could become useful again. John English is accepting used band (trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, etc.) and string (violin, viola, bass, etc.) instruments to support our instrumental music program. If you have an instrument to donate, please send a message to johnenglish to let us know. Instruments in need of minor repairs also accepted. Thank you for your support of our arts programs.

Do You Like Reading? : Research continues to tell us that students who are able to read by the end of Grade 1 have an increased chance for success in the future. At home it is important for parents to read with children from birth well into the school aged years. John English is always looking for volunteers to read with our younger students. If you would like to volunteer your time to read with our students please connect with the main office for further information.
