John English Friday Update – October 28th

Friday, October 28th, 2016 – John English Update

Grade 1 and 2 Cross – Country Meet at John English: Congratulations, to all of our Grade 1 and 2 students who have been training for the last few weeks for our cross-country meet at John English. The students can be very proud of their efforts and accomplishments. Thank you to Mme Trudeau and Mme Kim, to our student leaders and to our parent volunteers for ensuring the event was fun and healthy for all the participants.

Grade 4 – 8 Cross – Country: Thursday, October 27th was a cold blustery day but John English students were strong runners in the City Championships held at Centennial Park. Congratulations to all of our runners. Of special note were Roman – City Champion, Haley – 4th , Hannah – 10th, Helen – 12th. Thank you to Mme Kamnik, Mr. Poyser, Mme Easton and Mme D’Sa for their coaching of the team.

Pizza Day: John English experienced another successful pizza day. Over 140 pizzas were served to more than 600 students. This could not happen without the support of our army of volunteers. Thank you to all those parents who were able to assist with our pizza day. The students thank you and parents thank you as it was a day when lunches did not need to be made.

Costume Parade: On October 31st, we will be holding our annual costume parade for Kindergarten to Grade 5 students. The parade will begin at approximately 1:00 p.m. on the paved play area outside. Parents are welcomed to view the parade. If the weather is uncooperative the parade will take place inside. Students are reminded that costumes at school should allow faces to be seen and to avoid accessories that are unsafe. Parents who do not wish their children to participate in the parade should contact their child’s teacher and we will make alternate arrangements for the students. The parade will last approximately 30 minutes.

Grade 9 Information Night: It was wonderful to see many Grade 8 students and parents this past Thursday, October 27th in the auditorium as students begin exploring the options for Grade 9. Students and parents are reminded to review Secondary School open house dates and times and plan to visit the schools and ask questions. Further information is available from our guidance counsellor, Ms. Bryer. If you would like to speak to Ms. Bryer call the main office 416-394-7660.
