Parent/Teacher Interviews: It was wonderful to see so many parents and students Thursday evening and Friday morning to meet with teachers to discuss student progress and set goals. The Progress Report and interviews provide parents with an update of student achievement part way through the first term. The first term report card will be sent home in early February and will record achievement results from the beginning of September through to the end of January. Communication between school and home is a key element in the success of students. If you were unable to attend the parent interviews or you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office to leave a message for your child’s teacher.

Assembly Hall Art Show: Each year the Assembly Hall located at 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park hosts a winter art exhibition. Students from all over south Etobicoke are invited to submit works of art for consideration. The opening reception will take place on Wednesday, November 30th from 6:00–8:00 p.m. On the opening night there will be activities, songs and fun for all ages. Congratulations to the following students: Hannah Baker, Thalia Sider, Bronte Johnstone, Amelie Duncan, Ellis Samplonius, Kyley James, Sienna Dummett, Zuzu Powell, Hana Lang, Devon Kee and Annie Tims who will all have their work on display from November 23rd to December 14th. We hope that you will be able to see all of the artwork displayed and to support John English by visiting the gallery and voting for the ‘Most Favourite’, ‘Most Imaginative’, ‘Most Festive’, ‘Most Wintery’, and ‘Most Amusing’ art pieces at the gallery. The Awards Ceremony will take place Wednesday, December 14th at 6:00 p.m.

From School Council

Fresh From the Farm: Over 1000 kg of food was delivered to John English on Thursday, November 17th from the Fresh from the Farm organization. Parents were able to pick up their items on Thursday and Friday of this past week. If you were unable to pick up your items, they are available from the school on Monday, November 21st. Thank you to all those parents who ordered or donated items to the Daily Bread Food Bank.

Winter Coat Drive: Do you have a gently used winter coat or other winter clothing that is looking for a new home? The John English School Council in partnership with Carquest is supporting the Children’s Breakfast Clubs by collecting gently used winter clothing (i.e., coats, sweaters, boots, hats, mittens, snowpants) to help prepare those in need for the winter season. Items may be placed in the large cardboard box outside of the main office. We thank you for your generosity. We are collecting the warm clothing until November 30, 2016.
