Winter Concert: Our winter concert will be taking place on Wednesday, December 14thbeginning at 6:30 p.m. Our Kindergarten to Grade 5 students will be participating in the presentation along with our Grade 8 Band and Grade 7 and 8 Strings groups. We know this will be an enjoyable evening for all. Those parents who are able are encouraged to walk to the school due to the limited parking space. Extra parking is available at the Mimico Adult Centre.
Food and Toy Drive: As you know, the winter holidays can be a difficult time for families. École John English JMS and the Student Council will be holding a Holiday Food and Toy Drive. Parents and students are asked to bring in non-perishable food items and/or a new unwrapped toy to our annual winter concert next week. Boxes will also be available in front of the office. Non-perishable food items include: canned food (i.e., fruit, meat, chicken, vegetables)dried food (i.e., cereals, rice, pasta, lentils) and cookies and crackers. Items that are always of particular need are baby supplies such as formula, baby food and diapers. Your Student Council greatly appreciates your support at this time.
Scholastic Book Fair: The École John English Scholastic Book Fair ran from December 1st to December 7th. During this one week period, John English students purchased many books, magazines and other school items. As a result, the school has earned over $6000 worth of credit to purchase books. It was great to see so many students interested in reading and learning about new interests. The book fair could not happen without the tremendous support we received from our parent volunteers. We thank Ms. Boyd-Brown for her tremendous effort organizing the book fair and all of our parents for taking their time to assist with the running of the book fair. We also thank Ms. Jenkins for all of her work in coordinating the event.
Lego Robotics: Congratulations to our Animal Avengers Lego Robotics team who competed this past Saturday, December 3rdfrom 7:30 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The team approached every challenge with poise and confidence. The effort of our team was clear to the judges as they were presented with the ‘Judges Award’. This award recognizes teams whose unique efforts, performance or dynamics merit recognition. It recognizes teams that have a ‘can do attitude’ by believing ‘we can overcome incredible odds if we never give up, no matter what!’ and it also indicates that the judges expect great things in the future. Congratulations to Alison, Abigail, Carmel, Gordon, Hudson, Kieran, MacLaren, Sullivan, Tenzin, and Tyler. We also thank our coaches Mr. Bowen, Mr. Dunn, and Mr. Nunes.
Assembly Hall Art Show: Congratulations to Devon K. the winner of the Most Imaginative Award and to Bronte J. for an honourable mention in the Most Imaginative category. All families are reminded of the Assembly Hall Art Show that is happening until December 14th. Each year the Assembly Hall located at 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park hosts a winter art exhibition. Students from all over south Etobicoke are invited to submit works of art for consideration.
