Career Day at John English: École John English JMSwill be holding a Grade 7 and 8 Career Day on Friday, May 5th. We are looking for guest speakers willing to visit the school for the afternoon, to present two or three short career talks to small groups of Grade 7 and 8 students.

The objective of the conference is to broaden the career aspirations and knowledge of Grade 7 and 8 students by providing exposure to many different types of careers and workplaces. We believe that your experience and knowledge in the working world is valuable information to share with students.

If you are interested in supporting this event, please contact Sue Bryer at sue.bryer or 416 394-7660 (ext. 20040) and leave a message. If you are unavailable to do a career talk, please consider asking a colleague who may be interested in providing students with a career talk. On behalf of the students and staff at John English, we thank you in advance for your support and willingness to participate. If you require further details please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Bryer.

Drainage Construction in the Yard: For the past few years, when there has been moderate to heavy rainfall our lower gym has experienced flooding. In an effort to fix this problem our facility department has been working to improve the drainage from and around the school. As a result the team has been digging in the school yard. The construction area is contained within fencing in the yard. The expectation is that the work crew will be finished by the end of February, however, the work area will not be seeded or sodded until later in the year. During the construction period the work area will remained secured and we will make effective use of the playground that is still available.

Sports Update: The John English Hockey team participated in the Lakeshore C.I. pre-season tournament. Congratulations to the team who played to a 1–2–1 record on the day as they tuned up for the coming season. All players put forth their best effort.
