Information is also available on the school website If you are thinking that your child would enjoy some time at school enhancing language, mathematics and their technology skills in French or English this is the perfect opportunity. Registrations should be returned to the main office by May 16th, 2017

Movie Night and Basket Raffles: Tonight is the night. Our movie night extravaganza begins at 5:15 p.m. Tickets are still available at the door for $10.00 each. A delicious dinner will be followed by a movie in the luxurious John English auditorium. This evening would not be possible without the time and dedication of our many parent volunteers. We thank our School Council members for all of their work organizing and running this event. Thanks as well to all those parents who donated items for the baskets to be raffled during the evening.

Grade 8 Students Visit the Legislature: Our Grade 8 students were the first students in history to be present as the provincial budget was presented in parliament. After a quick tour of Queen’s Park and a historical scavenger hunt, our students were ushered into the gallery as VIP access only. It was an opportunity to see our political leaders in action. We thank those who made this opportunity possible.

John English Happenings: Many John English events are captured by photos and tweeted. If you don’t have access to twitter, you can visit the John English website to see our latest tweets.

Earth Week Activities: Friday, April 21st, John English students of all grade levels contributed to Earth Week by participating in several initiatives for this week including Pitch-In Canada’s 50th anniversary and the ‘Clean Toronto Together’ Spring clean-up. Over 500 TDSB schools participated in this community event. Our Grade 2 students took part in the EarthPLAY for Earth Day event planned and co-ordinated by our Grade 7 EcoTeam members. Students rotated through a variety of environmental play stations to learn about the benefits of outdoor play and active living. More information regarding this campaign can be found at Mr. Tang’s Grade 6/7 class assisted the Waste Audit team to complete our second waste audit. The data displayed in our cafeteria indicates how well classrooms are managing waste, green bin material and recyclables. It is important for everyone to remember the 3R’s during your daily activities – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle! For more information and updates on our schools EcoTeam activities please visit the John English EcoTeam@JE_EcoTeam on Twitter!

Grade 7 and 8 Science Fair – Thursday, April 27th: John English students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 had an opportunity to visit the John English Grade 7 and 8 Science Fair in the cafeteria. Students learned about light, colours, water and so much more. Our Grade 7 and 8 students are commended for their effort and diligence in creating their projects. We thank Mr. Bowen for leading the Science Fair and we also thank all parents who were able to attend the display.

National Ballet of Canada: The National Ballet of Canada visited our Kindergarten to Grade 3 classes this week. Students had a chance to see a behind the scenes approach to the ballet. Students saw dancers warming up, applying make-up, returning in costume and performing. It was a wonderful experience for all of our students.

Sports Update: Grade 6 Co-ed Volleyball – The old saying “There is no I in team” certainly applied to the Grade 6 Co-ed team this week. Jovan, Ela, Benen, Calay, Rinchen, Eyerusalem, Uros, Hayley, Mason and Olivia played as a solid team to defeat a very competitive Humber Valley to become Conference Champions!!! The season proved to be a learning experience for everyone … learning how to work together, learning how to encourage one another and learning how to WIN graciously together! Congratulations on an excellent season! Your coaches are SO proud of you! We thank coaches Mme Smith and Ms. Sharda.
