Thank You: Thank you, parents and students, for providing a wonderful breakfast for staff on the morning of Friday, May 26th. Your generosity and kindness was truly overwhelming. Your support makes John English a special place to learn and work. We also thank you for your continued partnership and support of your children as we work to provide them the greatest possible success in their learning.
Speak Up John English: During the evening of Thursday, May 25th parents had an opportunity to see and hear a presentation written, directed, acted and staged by some of our Grade 8 students. All in attendance were amazed at the professionalism and the maturity of our student actors. The focus on the play was social justice, with the aim to inspire those in attendance to speak up when they are in the presence of unfair action. Our students can be extremely proud of their hard work and dedication to this project.
Bike to School Week May 29th – June 2nd:Students are encouraged to Bike to School all this week ( and every day). Students can lock up their bikes on the bike racks at the back of the school – near the playground. The first 25 students to bike to school on Monday will receive a colourful sticker! The warmer weather and longer days make spring a great time of year to walk, bike or roll to school. Using these modes of active transportation helps to reduce congestion, improve air quality and promote health. Students who travel to school actively arrive at school more alert, focused and ready to learn. Find out more at http://www.biketoschoolweek.ca
EcoSchools: Congratulations to our John English Community! Due to our environmental efforts, we have been awarded PLATINUM status – the highest status for all participating EcoSchools. Thanks to staff, students and community members who do their part for our planet. Thank you to Ms. West, Ms. Jenkins and all of our Eco team members for their effort and our Eco-schools initiatives.
Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast: Parents and community members who have volunteered throughout the year are invited to our annual volunteer appreciation breakfast on Friday, June 2ndbeginning at 8:00 a.m. Invitations were sent home with our students, but if we missed you with our delivery service and you offered your time and effort as a volunteer for our school, join us this morning for some coffee, tea, juice and a small bite. The time and commitment of so many of our volunteers make John English a great place for learning.
Screenagers – The Movie: There has been considerable discussion and debate about the increase in the volume of screen time to which children and students are exposed. Screenagers is a movie that discusses this 21st century change in the lives of our young people, and speaks about the possible impact of these many devices that we have available to us. A free screening of the movie will happen on Monday, May 29th from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Etobicoke School of the Arts. A trailer can be viewed at https://www.screenagersmovie.com/ If you are interested in attending this event please RSVP at the following link Screenagers Movie
