Grade 2 and 3 Run, Jump and Throw: On Thursday, June 8th our Grade 2 and 3 students had a chance to participate in athletic activities on the Lakeshore C. I. field. The rescheduled day saw wonderful sunshine and school spirit as John English joined other schools in the area to participate in these fun and cooperative events run by the student leadership team of L.C.I. We thank Mme Trudeau for all of her efforts organizing the day and we thank those many parents who volunteered to help the day run smoothly.

Humber River ECO Initiative: Grade 6 students in Mme Way’s and Ms. Laruccia’s classes participated in an ECO initiative involving the Humber River. Students had the opportunity to learn about the delicate eco-system in our rivers and streams throughout Toronto and southern Ontario. Students had a chance to gather data about the Humber River and contribute to a larger study. We thank Mme Way for organizing the excursion, and our parent volunteers for assisting on this valuable trip.

John English Summer School: Thank you to all those students who registered for summer school at John English. Unfortunately, due to low enrolment we have been informed that summer school at John English will not operate. Students have the option of attending Swansea Public School (English, French, Grade 1-8) or Karen Kain School of the Arts (Grade 4–8). Most students have received the attached letter and are asked to return their selection to the school main office by Tuesday, June 13th.

Play Day: The sun was shining and the music playing as our Kindergarten to Grade 6 students participated in Play Day on Wednesday, June 7th. It was a fun day for all as our Grade 7 leaders helped to run the events and activities. Thank you to Mr. Murray, Mme Trudeau and all of our organizing teachers for their work in supporting this wonderful activity day.

22 Division Open House:Officer Rich invites all students and families to the 22 Division Police Open House. The event will take place on June 17th from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. There will be food and entertainment for all. More information is available in the attached flyer.

Party in the Park – June 12th: The Mimico Community celebrates together each year with ‘Party in the Park’. This year due to the uncertain field conditions at John English, the party has moved to George R. Gauld Junior School and will take place on June 12th beginning at 5:30 p.m. Attached is a flyer with further information about the event. We hope to see everyone there.

Franklin Horner Community Centre 30th Anniversary Party: Franklin Horner Community Centre is celebrating their 30th anniversary and grand re-opening on Saturday, June 10th from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm. Further information is available in the attached flyer.

Sports Update: Congratulations to our Senior Boys Soccer team who advanced to the conference finals last week. The players should be proud of their effort and teamwork. We thank Mr. Neal for his coaching duties. The weather was not cooperative, but our track and field athletes managed to achieve a number of personal bests and represented John English proudly. Eight John English students will be representing the school at the city finals at Birchmount C.I. on Wednesday June 13th. We wish all of them success. Our Grade 6 Girls and Boys soccer teams completed their seasons this week. The Girls team placed second losing a very close game in penalty kicks to a strong Hollycrest team. Mme Lemieux was proud of the girls for their effort, play as a team, heart, concentration and spirit.
