World Water Day: John English JMS celebrated world water day on Thursday, March 22nd. Mme Way’s students completed the final component of their Great Waters Challenge entry by sharing their learning with the school community through a water day fair! The fair was filled with activities, games, movies, informative presentations, music, dancing, art, a raffle, a t-shirt design contest and fundraising for the World Wildlife Organization’s Freshwater Fund via donations and reusable water bottle sales. Thanks to everyone who attended and especially to the students of 6D who worked hard to create their booths and made sure that their activities ran smoothly!

Earth Hour: John English recognized Earth Hour by turning off and reducing the use of electricity from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 23rd. During this time, our EcoTeam students read picture books about our Earth and the environment to various classes and our grade 6 to 8 students were invited to the auditorium to watch a movie about climate change and how they could play their part, such as, the importance of using non-renewable resources wisely to ensure continued availability in the future. Part of our school EcoSchools focus is to ensure that students learn and develop life-long habits of care and concern for the environment both in our community and around the world.

JETV is on the Air: Our Grade 8 students, using their technical skills, are providing a video update of happenings at John English. The John English TV segments will be available on Youtube. The segments are unlisted and therefore cannot be searched by the general public. The inaugural episode of JETV is available to John English students and parents here. We look forward to more segments of our JETV as our videographers, reporters, editors and producers develop their skills.

“Healthy Growing, Healthy Living in South Etobicoke/Lakeshore”: This interactive workshop is being held at Humber College (Lakeshore Campus) on Wednesday, March 28th from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Please see the attached flyer for additional details on the event and how to register.

Jack Kuttner Zubac, who competed in the Grade 4 – 6 Extended French category, and Alison Thompson who participated in the Grade 7 – 8 Core French category will be moving on to the Provincial level at Glendon College in May. Congratulations! All students can be very proud of themselves. We commend each presenter for the months of hard work and preparation for the event. A special thank you is sent to all parents, teachers and students for their time and effort in preparing for this contest. Way to go Royals!
