Friday, April 20th 2018 – John English Weekly Update

This Week’s Friday Update: We Walk for Water, Little Mermaid – Musical, Summer School, Bag 2 School, Spring Concert – New Date, John English Lunch time Programs, Sports Update

WE Walk For Water: Thank you to all those that donated baked goods for Thursday’s ‘We Walk for Water’ Bake Sale. The sale was a great success, raising $383.60 which will provide access to clean water to almost 16 people for the rest of their lives. Thanks to Ms. Rajmoolie and her “We Walk for Water” team for organizing this event as well as Mme Kim, Mme Trudeau and Mme Baillet who assisted at the Bake Sale.

On Friday, April 27th, we will continue to raise awareness as John English will be joining schools across the country for WE Walk For Water, a global fundraising event to walk and raise money for all the women and children who travel hours each day to collect water. Clean water is a basic human right, but more than 800 million people lack access to it. When communities have access to clean water, girls can attend school and families can lead healthier lives. We’re asking everyone to donate a toonie or more. Every $25 we raise gives one person clean water for life. For more information visit

Little Mermaid – Musical: We are intending to have our auditorium ready for the musical onMay 9th and 10th. Rehearsals are continuing to happen and repairs are being made to our auditorium. If it is necessary to postpone the musicals, our new dates will be May 15th and May 16th. Tickets continue to be on sale through Cash Online. Please see the attached flyer for further information. The John English musicals are always one of the highlights of the year.

Summer School: Although it is only the beginning of March, many families are beginning to plan for the summer months. This year, John English JMS will be home to the KKSA Leadership Arts Academy from July 4–27. Application forms available at Any questions should be directed to 416-394-7979

John English EcoSchool Initiative – Bag2school – Spring Drive: Thank you to all families and staff who have already made donations of used clothing and textiles. Donations can be dropped off to our front foyer. If you have donations that you have not yet sent to the school, there is still time. Our campaign will run until next Friday, April 27th. More information about the program can be found at

Spring Concert: Our Spring concert originally scheduled for May 16th has been postponed. Unfortunately with the events that have happened in our auditorium in the past few weeks, it has been difficult to practise. Just as unfortunately, our strings instructor, Ms. Christmas is on leave from her position. We have been able to secure two instructors who will work alternately on Day 1 and Day 5 to help prepare the students for the concert.

School Council

Save the Date! The John English Staff Appreciation Breakfast is coming up on June 1st, and we will need your help! Each year this event gives us a chance to show the staff of John English how much we appreciate all that they do, and each year the John English families help us do just that. We will be looking for donations of food, people to help with set up the day before, volunteers to help set up, serve and clean up the day of the breakfast, monetary donations to be used for food and supplies, and artwork from your kiddos to help decorate the staff room. If you would like to donate your time, money, food, or participate in any other way please contact Arja Lytle – arjalytle. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the event.
